Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to social media to declare “unanimous confidence” in completing the Jorhat-Dibrugarh section of the National Highway by 31 December 2025, fulfilling a major infrastructural commitment ahead of the next elections, ANI reported.
The announcement followed a high-level meeting in Delhi on Monday (7 April) with Dr Krishan Kumar, Managing Director of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL).
“Pursuant to my discussion yesterday in Delhi with Dr. Krishan Kumar, Managing Director of @nhidcl, I am happy to share that there is unanimous confidence in completing the Jorhat-Dibrugarh section of the National Highway by 31st December,” CM Sarma wrote on X.
“This marks yet another promise made to the people that will be fulfilled well before the elections,” he added.
The Jorhat-Dibrugarh corridor forms part of the ambitious four-lane highway project extending from Kaliabor to Numaligarh, with approximately 95 per cent already completed, including sections passing through the ecologically sensitive Kaziranga National Park.
In another update posted on X, on 7 April, Sarma highlighted discussions with NHIDCL’s MD on major infrastructure projects, including the Rs 25,000 crore Guwahati-Silchar Expressway, the Numaligarh-Gohpur underwater tunnel, and expansion of national highway networks from Baihata Chariali to Tezpur and Gohpur to Kulajan.
Further, the CM urged expedited work on key projects such as the 19.28 km four-lane bridge over the Brahmaputra connecting Dhubri (Assam) to Phulbari (Meghalaya), which is set to significantly reduce travel time and improve regional connectivity.
Sarma also met Rajat Kumar Mishra, Secretary, Department of Fertilisers, to discuss the upcoming fertiliser plant in Namrup. Meanwhile, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari recently sanctioned Rs 382.10 crore for a 2 lane highway with paved shoulders connecting Majuli and Jorhat via NH-715K, including a 20.5 km flyover.
