Telangana legislator K Kavitha has been suspended from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) by her father and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, following her public accusations against senior party leader and cousin T Harish Rao, NDTV reported.
Her remarks came a day after the Congress-led state government transferred the probe into alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram irrigation project to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
On Monday (1 September), Kavitha alleged that Harish Rao, who served as Irrigation Minister in 2014 under the BRS government, had amassed wealth and worked with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to damage KCR’s reputation.
She also levelled accusations against former Rajya Sabha MP J Santosh Kumar.
"We have to think about why the taint of corruption came to KCR. Some who are close to KCR have benefited in many ways by making use of his name. KCR's name is getting defamed today because of their misdeeds," Kavitha said, directly questioning Harish Rao’s role.
She further claimed that Revanth Reddy was shielding Harish Rao and Santosh Kumar, alleging the three were acting together against KCR.
Kavitha expressed confidence that her father would come out of the CBI probe “as pure as a pearl,” but admitted it was painful as his daughter to witness him endure such charges.
Kavitha had been under pressure within the party since her arrest by the CBI in the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam, which kept her in jail for nearly six months between 16 March and 24 August 2024.
After her release, she re-entered politics and began championing OBC issues on her own, a move that displeased the party leadership.
