The Kanpur Metro is nearing completion of its preparations for the passenger service extension from Motijheel to Kanpur Central under Corridor-1, connecting IIT to Naubasta.
Finishing works are in progress at the five underground stations on this stretch, which include Chunniganj, Naveen Market, Bada Chauraha, Nayaganj, and Kanpur Central, ET Infra reported.
Further, the system installation work across various departments is progressing rapidly.
Earlier on Tuesday, Sushil Kumar, the managing director of Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRC), inspected the Baradevi-Naubasta elevated section and the underground section extending from Chunniganj to Transport Nagar Station on Corridor-1.
He assessed the progress of various departmental works during the visit.
Four out of the five stations on the corridor now have Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gates installed.
The AFC system, crucial for seamless metro travel, includes AFC gates, Ticket Vending Machines (TVM), and Ticket Office Machines (TOM).
The installation of these systems is advancing rapidly from Chunniganj to Kanpur Central Station.
The AFC gates allow passengers to scan QR codes on their tickets for entry into the paid area.
Passengers have the option to use either QR code tickets or NCMC Go smart cards for their metro journeys.
The Kanpur Metro’s official mobile app also allows passengers to purchase tickets conveniently from home.
Available on Android and iOS platforms, the 'Kanpur Metro' app generates a QR code upon ticket booking, ensuring easy access and a hassle-free travel experience at AFC gates.
