Karnataka Assembly Adopts Four Resolutions Including Opposition To NEET, 'One Nation, One Election' And Delimitation

The Karnataka Legislative Assembly has passed four significant resolutions despite facing opposition from BJP and JD(S) members, demanding debate on alleged irregularities in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA).

These resolutions included objections to the delimitation of Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies based on the new population census, opposition to the “One Nation, One Election” proposal, and criticism of the National Entrance cum Eligibility Test (NEET).

The first resolution urged the Central Government not to carry out the delimitation of constituencies based on the upcoming 2026 census or any future census. It suggested that any increase in the number of seats should be based on the 1971 census.

The second resolution, read by Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H.K. Patil, argued that the ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal threatens India’s democratic and federal system.

It highlighted concerns about undermining state autonomy, managing election logistics, and potential voter dissatisfaction.

Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash introduced the third resolution, stating that NEET adversely affects medical education opportunities for poor children from rural areas and diminishes the effectiveness of the school education system.

The resolution called for Karnataka to be exempt from NEET, advocating instead for admissions based on the State Government’s Common Entrance Test, citing nationwide malpractices associated with NEET.

Forest and Environment Minister Eshwar Khandre presented the fourth resolution, urging the Centre to amend the rules under the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Forest Rights) Act, 2006, to better safeguard the rights of STs and traditional forest dwellers.

Despite opposition from BJP members, including Leader of Opposition R. Ashok, who demanded a special session to discuss the ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal and NEET, Speaker U.T. Khader announced that the resolutions had been adopted amid the protests.
