The Karnataka government has proposed a peripheral tunnel road to improve connectivity among several national highways entering Bengaluru as part of its overall infrastructure development plan.
The project is one of 12 proposals that have been sent to the Centre for approval, The Hindu reported.
Currently, the state government has proposed two crucial tunnel projects: Hebbal-Silk Board connectivity and KR Puram-Mysuru Road (Nayandahalli) connectivity.
Moreover, a tunnel road connecting Mysuru Road (NH-275) and Hosur Road (NH 48 & NH 75) through Tumakuru Road (NH 48), Ballari Road (NH 44), and Old Madras Road (Old NH-4) has been proposed to decongest Bengaluru.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah met Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in Delhi on Wednesday (2 April) to seek approval for significant highway projects in the state.
He also thanked the Union Minister for clearing six projects previously.
The Chief Minister urged the Centre to sanction the widening of state highways having traffic volumes more than 10,000 passenger car units (PCU).
He also requested enhancement of sanction of national highway works of Rs 24,000 crore under the 2025-2026 annual plan.
Among the new proposals, Karnataka has requested:
Early approval of the Pune-Bengaluru Greenfield Expressway.
A tunnel at Shiradi Ghat on NH-75 to enhance connectivity between Mangaluru Port and Bengaluru.
Upgradation of road declared in principle as national highways on priority
Upgradation of nine grade separators on NH-275 in Mysuru Ring Road.
Construction of elevated corridor in Belagavi city on Pune-Bengaluru NH 4 for decongestion of Belagavi city
