The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has stated that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will not appear for questioning today (3 January) in the Delhi liquor policy case.

The party claimed that the summons issued by the Enforcement Directorate were 'illegal' and the only aim is to arrest Kejriwal.

Kejriwal, who is also the national convenor of the AAP, has received his third notice after refusing to appear before the investigation agency in response to two previous summonss on 2 November and 21 December.

The Aam Aadmi Party said that Kejriwal was prepared to collaborate with the agency. However, they alleged that the summons was sent with the intention of arresting him.

"Why has the notice been sent right before elections? The notice is an attempt to stop Kejriwal from campaigning in elections," the party alleged.

In April, the Central Bureau of Investigation had interrogated the AAP chief regarding the case, however, the agency had not made him an accused.

Since the Enforcement Directorate issued the initial summons, there has been widespread speculations the Delhi chief minister could be arrested by the agency following his questioning. Several leaders from the AAP have also issued statements along similar lines.

Former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia was arrested in connection with the case in February, and AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh was apprehended in October.
