Kerala: Independent MLA Anvar, Who Attacked CM Vijayan, Set To Launch New Political Party To 'Uphold Secular Values'

Nilambur MLA PV Anvar, who has recently opposed Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, announced on Wednesday (2 October) his plans to launch a new political party, with the intention of participating in the upcoming local body elections.

"The nation is striving to uphold its secular values. I will be forming a party that embodies these principles. Thousands of young people are eager to join me. The party will be launched with a grand gathering in Manjeswaram," Anvar stated.

The ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] has been gradually distancing itself from the independent MLA, who has made accusations against CM Vijayan's political secretary, P Sasi, and ADGP Ajith Kumar.

On Tuesday, the CPI(M) claimed that Anvar is receiving support from a coalition of the Congress, Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), SDPI, and Jamaat-e-Islami, after weeks of conflict with the Left party and the CM over various issues.

CPI(M) leaders continued to criticise Anvar, stating that his public meeting on Sunday was attended by members of Congress, the IUML, SDPI, and Jamaat-e-Islami, with only a few CPI(M) members present.

CPI(M) state secretary M V Govindan noted that Kerala is grappling with two types of communalism: "majority or Hindu communalism," which he labeled the "biggest threat," and "minority communalism."

Responding to Govindan's comments, Anvar said in Malappuram that his meeting was attended by individuals who are democratic and secular in their outlook.

Anvar has also accused Ajith Kumar and other senior police officials of mishandling the investigation into illegally imported gold, asserting that he was expelled from the LDF for pressing the CPM to take action against Kumar.

He has called for a high court-monitored inquiry into his allegations, including those against senior police officers. Meanwhile, a case was filed against Anvar on Sunday for allegedly tapping the phone calls of senior police officials.
