A court in West Bengal's Sealdah on Friday (13 December) granted bail to former officer-in-charge of Tala police station Abhijit Mondal and R G Kar Medical College and Hospital ex-principal Sandip Ghosh in the rape and murder case of an on-duty doctor.
Mondal has been accused of delaying the filing of an FIR in the rape and murder of the on-duty doctor at R G Kar Hospital on 9 August.
Ghosh was accused of tampering of evidence in the case.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is investigating the rape-murder case on an order of the Calcutta High Court, had arrested both Mondal and Ghosh in connection with the case.
The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) of the Sealdah court granted bail to the two accused persons as chargesheet against them was not filed within the mandatory 90-day period, a lawyer representing Ghosh said, news agency PTI reported.
Speaking to reporters outside the court, Mondal’s lawyer stated that he would soon be released from the correctional home where he had been held on judicial remand.
Despite being granted bail in the rape-murder case, Ghosh will remain in custody as he is on judicial remand in a separate case involving alleged financial irregularities at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital.
