Following the successful trial run through the West-bound tunnel between Sealdah and Esplanade, Metro Railway Kolkata announced an increase in services on Green Line-2, benefiting commuters from 23 January.
Starting Thursday (23 January), it increased the number of weekday services from 114 to 130 along the stretch.
Trains will operate between Howrah Maidan and Esplanade stations from 7.00 am to 9.45 pm.
During peak hours, from 9 am to 11 am and 5 pm to 8 pm, trains will operate at 12-minute intervals.
During non-peak hours, services will run every 15 minutes in both East-bound and West-bound tunnels.
Sunday schedules have also been updated with 62 services running on Green Line-2, instead of the previous 46 services.
Trains will operate between Howrah Maidan and Esplanade stations from 2.15 pm to 9.45 pm at 15-minute intervals, according to the statement.
The adjustments are part of ongoing efforts to enhance connectivity and convenience for passengers while construction on the East-West Metro Corridor continues.
Services on the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade stretch have been revised periodically since November 2024 to accommodate the corridor’s development.
This initiative aims to enhance daily commuting and strengthen public transport infrastructure between the two sides of the Hooghly River.
