The confusion over the real Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate in Moradabad for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections was cleared by District Magistrate Manvendra Singh who said that Ruchi Veera filed her nominations on the party symbol.

The confusion was that two candidates filed their nominations in Moradabad on behalf of the SP. The sitting MP ST Hasan filed his nomination on Tuesday, followed by Ruchi Veera, who filed her nomination on Wednesday.

There was the buzz of candidate change in Moradabad as rumours emerged about Ruchi Veera's candidature. The SP workers protested against it after which ST Hasan filed his nomination papers.

Everyone assumed that the plans to field Ruchi Veera had been dropped due to protests and ST Hasan will be the SP candidate. However, a day later, when Ruchi Veera filed her nomination, the confusion resurfaced.

She claimed that ST Hasan is her elder brother and she is the SP candidate as party president Akhilesh Yadav has chosen her. However, SP district functionaries were not present during her nomination filing.

Interestingly, the SP posted the candidature form of Hasan on its official social media handle on Saturday. Even Congress and SP functionaries were present during his nomination filing.

However, it now seems that he might not get a chance to contest on the SP ticket. Instead, Ruchi Veera has got the opportunity, who was in the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) earlier.

She had represented Bijnor in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly by winning the 2014 by-polls, however, lost the 2017 and 2022 Assembly elections. She is known to have the support of jailed SP leader Azam Khan in her candidature.
