Nothing, the London-based consumer tech firm, announced Thursday (25 September), that its design-focused sub-brand CMF will now function as an independent subsidiary, Moneycontrol reported.
India has been chosen as the global headquarters for CMF's operations, R&D, and manufacturing, marking the country’s expanding influence in next-generation technology development.
To support this transition, Nothing has entered into a strategic joint venture with Indian electronics firm Optiemus Infracom.
The partnership aims to make India a global production and export hub for Nothing and CMF products.
With over $100 million in planned investment, the initiative is projected to generate more than 1,800 jobs within three years.
Nothing has already invested over $200 million in India to date.
“India will play a key role in shaping the future of the global smartphone industry,” said Carl Pei, CEO of Nothing, after meeting with Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
"We discussed our journey with Nothing and our plans to establish CMF as a subsidiary headquartered in India - building it into the country’s first truly global consumer tech brand. Built from India, to the world," he said.
"With our end-to-end capabilities, we are uniquely positioned to bring this vision to life. As part of this, I’m excited to announce our new manufacturing joint venture with Optiemus, one of India’s leading technology manufacturers - a key milestone in making this vision a reality. Through this JV, we plan to invest over $100M and create more than 1,800 jobs in India over the next three years," he added.
For Optiemus, which has experience manufacturing for global technology companies, the collaboration strengthens India’s electronics production landscape.
“Global brands choosing India to build is a testament to the strength of the Indian ecosystem and the vision of Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat,” said Ashok Gupta, Executive Chairman of Optiemus.
This move builds on earlier decisions that placed India at the centre of CMF’s global operations. These include relocating CMF’s global marketing to India and naming Himanshu Tandon as Vice President of CMF Business.
