Manipur CM N Biren Singh's Torn Resignation Letter Emerges; Hundreds Of Women Gather Near His Residence In His Support

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, who has come under fire in lieu of the ethnic violence in the state for nearly two months, was on the brink of resigning today, according to reports.

However, he changed his mind due to public pressure after witnessing a massive show of support outside his Imphal residence.

Hundreds of women gathered near Singh's residence and formed a human chain, expressing their opposition to his resignation. They tore up a copy of his resignation letter when two ministers emerged from his residence with it.

Meanwhile, during his two-day visit to the northeastern state, former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi will meet 'like-minded' party leaders, United Naga Council (UNC) leaders, and members of civil society organizations at his Imphal hotel today, according to Manipur Congress president Keisham Meghachandra's statement to ANI.

Fresh violence in Manipur has claimed the lives of three individuals, including a police constable, over the past two days.

The Indian Army reported a clash in the tense Kangpokpi district of Manipur, stating that armed rioters opened fire in the village of Haraothel. In response, the army mobilised nearby stationed troops to prevent the situation from escalating.

An army statement indicated that there were some casualties after the clash, including the shooting death of Head Constable Lenglam Dimngel when the armed mob attacked. These reports, however, remain unconfirmed.

Various parts of the state have seen the recovery of 17 arms, 12 ammunition, and 10 bombs in the last 24 hours, according to the Manipur Police. Additionally, a joint team recovered eight arms, two ammunition, and two bombs from the Kakching district on Wednesday (28 June).
