Security forces in Manipur have recovered 19 weapons, ammunition, and war-like stores during a series of joint operations conducted between 6 January and 9 January in various districts affected by ethnic strife, according to an official release on Monday (13 January).
The operations were carried out jointly by the Assam Rifles, under the operational control of the Indian Army, and the Manipur Police in the districts of Thoubal, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, and Kakching. The recoveries included rifles, pistols, grenades, ammunition, and other war-like stores.
The release stated, “In a series of successful joint operations, Indian Army in coordination with Manipur Police and other security forces, recovered 19 weapons, ammunition and warlike stores from both hill and valley regions in the districts of Thoubal, Kangpokpi, Churchandpur and Kakching in Manipur.”
Press release also said that an intelligence-based operation in the Irong village of Thoubal district on 6 January and Sekmaijin in Kakching district on 9 January led to the recovery of a self-loading rifle, a single-barrel rifle, an improvised mortar, three 9mm pistols, grenades, ammunition, and war-like stores.
"On 8 January, a similar operation conducted in the Saheibung peak area, 5 km north of Kotlen village in Kangpokpi district, resulted in the recovery of a 7.62 mm rifle, a 5.56 mm rifle, a .32 mm pistol, a single-barrel rifle, two tube launchers, ammunition, and war-like stores."
In Jiribam district, specific intelligence prompted a joint operation on 9 January in the Jakurador area, where explosives and other war-like stores were seized.
Another operation on 11 January in the Old Gelmol Village of Churachandpur district led to the recovery of a 7.62 mm AK-56 rifle, a .303 rifle, a 9 mm pistol, a single-barrel rifle, three 12 mm single-barrel rifles, and grenades.
