Tens of thousands of protesters marched through major US cities on Saturday (5 April), opposing President Donald Trump's policies, NDTV reported.

This marked the largest demonstration since Trump returned to the White House.

Critics of the Republican president’s policies - from government staffing cuts to trade tariffs and eroding civil liberties - gathered in cities across US including Washington, New York, Houston, Florida, Colorado, and Los Angeles.

In Washington, the National Mall saw thousands gather, many from distant states, as dozens of speakers urged resistance to Trump’s leadership.

Several European capitals also saw protests, where demonstrators criticised Trump’s aggressive trade policies.

In the US, left-leaning groups including MoveOn and Women's March organised "Hands Off" events in more than 1,000 cities and in every congressional district, the groups said.

Trump’s approach has stirred anger by downsizing government, enforcing conservative norms, and pressuring allies over borders and trade.

These moves have also rattled financial markets.

Democrats, frustrated by their minority status in Congress, feel increasingly powerless against Trump’s assertive agenda.

Representative Jamie Raskin, who led Trump’s second impeachment effort, addressed the crowd gathered just blocks from the White House at the National Mall.

"No moral person wants an economy-crashing dictator who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing," he told the crowd.

The protests remained peaceful, with a vibrant and calm mood prevailing in Washington, where people of all ages — from seniors to young families — participated.

A Women's March shortly after Trump's first election in 2016 drew an estimated half-million protesters to Washington.

While organizers of the latest Washington rally expected around 20,000 attendees, they later reported turnout had far exceeded projections.

Recent polls show Trump’s approval rating has plunged to its lowest point since he assumed office, amid ongoing political upheaval.

Despite widespread disapproval of his tariffs and domestic unrest, the White House showed no concern over the protests.

The Republican president, still popular with his base, shows no sign of relenting.

"My policies will never change," Trump said Friday.
