Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has praised the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government while sharply criticising the Samajwadi Party (SP) and its president, Akhilesh Yadav.
She accused the SP of neglecting Dalit memorials and co-opting Dalit icons for political gain, reported NDTV.
Addressing supporters on BSP founder Kansi Ram's 19th death anniversary in Lucknow, Mayawati said, “I wrote a letter to the chief minister requesting that the ticket money collected from visitors be used for maintenance. The BJP government assured us that this money would not be diverted elsewhere but would be used only for upkeep — and they did so. For this, our party is thankful to them.”
She praised the BJP for maintaining institutions and memorials built under her government, unlike the SP, which did not spend a single rupee on their upkeep and kept the revenue collected from tickets.
"They did not spend a single rupee on their upkeep. They even kept the revenue collected from the tickets. But now, when they are out of power, they make headlines by saying they will organise seminars in honour of Kanshi Ram ji," she said.
Mayawati added, “When SP is in power, it is neither the thought of PDA nor the anniversaries of Kanshi Ram Ji that strikes them, but only when they are out of power do they talk of organising seminars in his honour.”
She accused Akhilesh Yadav of disrespect, asking, “If he really has so much respect for Kanshi Ram Ji, then why did he change the name of Kanshi Ram Nagar back to Kasganj?”
She warned supporters to be vigilant of “double‑faced individuals” who remember Dalit icons only for political advantage.
Responding, Akhilesh Yadav accused the BSP of “internal collusion” with the BJP, saying, “Because ‘their’ internal collusion continues, that is why they are grateful to their oppressors.”
