Construction of India’s first high-speed rail corridor marked another milestone with the completion of a 260-meter-long pre-stressed concrete (PSC) bridge over National Expressway-4 near Kosamba in Gujarat’s Surat district.

The bridge, finished on 22 February, is part of the 508.17-kilometer Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project, also know as the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project.

The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), which is overseeing the project, said this is the fifth such bridge completed along the corridor.

"The project is crossing over National Expressway- 4 between Delhi & Mumbai (passing through Rajasthan and Gujarat) near Kosamba at Surat district, Gujarat through elevated viaduct," the NHSRCL said.

The bridge features 104 precast segments with four spans of configuration (50m + 80m + 80m + 50m), and was built using the Balanced Cantilever Method, which is ideal for larger spans.

The newly completed bridge is located in between Surat and Bharuch Bullet Train stations.

National Expressway-4 is under construction Expressway between Delhi and Mumbai.

According to the NHSRCL, the construction was meticulously planned to ensure the safety of both vehicles and workers while maintaining uninterrupted traffic flow and minimising public inconvenience.

Earlier, the fourth PSC bridge, measuring 210 meters, was completed on 9 January 2025 in Kheda district, between Anand and Ahmedabad.

Constructed over National Highway-48, this bridge features four spans of 40 meters + 65 meters + 65 meters + 40 meters, a design also shared by the previous two PSC bridges.

Just a week earlier, on 2 January 2025, the third PSC bridge was completed in Valsad district, between Vapi and Bilimora.

Also built over NH-48, the 210-meter bridge features four spans of 40 meters + 65 meters + 65 meters + 40 meters.

The second PSC bridge, another 210-meter structure with the same 40m + 65m + 65m + 40m span configuration, was finished on 1 October 2024, in Navsari district, between Surat and Bilimora on NH-48.

The first PSC bridge, completed on 18 August 2024 over NH-38, was also 260 meters long, similar to the latest fifth PSC bridge.

Located in Navsari district, between Surat and Bilimora, the bridge was constructed over NH-48 and features four spans of 50 meters + 80 meters + 80 meters + 50 meters.
