Mumbai is set to get its own version of the famous London Eye, with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) approving the much-anticipated "Mumbai Eye" project in its latest annual budget.

This massive Ferris wheel, which will offer stunning panoramic views of the city’s skyline, will be built through a public-private partnership (PPP) model, although the final location is still to be determined.

Inspired by the London Eye, the Mumbai Eye aims to become a major tourist draw, offering visitors a spectacular aerial view of the bustling metropolis.

The project, which has been in the pipeline for years, may finally come to fruition with the BMC's recent approval.

First proposed by the Shiv Sena in 2008, the project has faced numerous delays.

In 2022, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) had planned to install the Ferris wheel at the Bandra Reclamation promenade, but the plan was scrapped following strong opposition from local residents.

Now revived, the Mumbai Eye is expected to be a new and exciting attraction for the city.

In 2024, Mumbai was the second most visited city in India by foreign tourists, attracting 14.95 per cent of the total 9.24 million arrivals.

The addition of the Mumbai Eye is expected to enhance the city’s appeal as a top global tourist destination.
