The Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway, a landmark infrastructure project designed to enhance connectivity between Maharashtra’s two major cities, is nearing completion, Times of India reported.

The latest 76 kilometre stretch from Igatpuri to Amane is scheduled to open to the public in March 2025, marking a significant step forward in the expressway’s phased rollout.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will likely inaugurate the Igatpuri-Amane section in March 2025, according to the ToI report.

Ahead of the launch, final preparations such as lane markings and road painting will be completed between 25-27 February.

Once operational, this segment will significantly improve travel between Igatpuri, Amane, and neighbouring regions, reducing congestion and offering a smoother journey.

Since its inception, the Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway has been opened in phases.

The first major section, covering 520 kilometres from Nagpur to Shirdi, was inaugurated in December 2022 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

This was followed by a 105 kilometre stretch from Shirdi to Bharvir, launched in May 2023 by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

In March 2024, a further 25 kilometre segment from Bharvir to Igatpuri was opened.

With the latest extension from Igatpuri to Amane, the expressway is moving closer to full completion.

Designed for high-speed travel, the expressway allows vehicles to reach speeds of up to 150 km/h.

Modern safety infrastructure includes wildlife underpasses, pedestrian crossings, and flyovers, ensuring a safer environment for both motorists and local wildlife.

The road is divided into 16 segments, with a toll system in place for 40 years to support ongoing maintenance and operations.

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is also prioritising commuter convenience. Along the route, ten public service areas will be developed, offering fuel stations, food stalls, and rest zones, making long journeys more comfortable and accessible for travellers.

At Amane, the expressway will link with the under-construction Mumbai-Vadodara Expressway, further improving connectivity between Jawaharlal Nehru Port and Gujarat.

A temporary route currently connects the Mumbai-Nashik Highway to the Samruddhi Expressway, but once the Bhiwandi extension is completed, travel efficiency will increase significantly.
