The United States Supreme Court has cleared the extradition of Mumbai-terror attack accused Tahawwur Rana to India by rejecting a review petition challenging his conviction in the case.
India had requested the extradition of Tahawwur Rana, a Canadian citizen of Pakistani origin, for his involvement in the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks.
The Supreme Court's decision marked Rana's final opportunity to avoid extradition.
Prior to this, Rana had unsuccessfully contested his case in various federal courts, including the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in San Francisco.
Tahawwur Rana had submitted a "petition for a writ of certiorari" to the US Supreme Court on 13 November.
The apex US court dismissed his petition on 21 January, a day after Donald Trump's inauguration as the President of the United States.
"Certiroari denied," the US Supreme Court said in a brief statement.
Tahawwur Rana is presently held at the Metropolitan Detention Center located in Los Angeles, news agency PTI reported.
The 2008 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attack led to the death of 166 people which also included six US nationals.
