Mumbai’s Siddhivinayak Temple Imposes Dress Code: Shorts, Revealing Outfits Not Allowed

Devotees visiting Mumbai’s famous Siddhivinayak Temple will need to follow a strict dress code.

The temple trust has announced that visitors wearing short or revealing clothes will not be allowed inside, emphasising the importance of maintaining decorum in the sacred space, reported The Indian Express.

In a statement, the Shree Siddhivinayak Ganapati Temple Trust (SSGTT) said , “The devotees should wear modest Indian traditional clothes. The rules mandate the individuals should wear clothes that cover the body fully.”.

Those who fail to comply will be denied entry.

Explaining the decision, trust member Rahul Londe was quoted as saying by Indian Express, “We held a meeting recently where a collective decision was taken to enforce some rules on attire to maintain sanctity in the place of worship. We are not saying who should wear what. All we are saying is individuals who come to the temple should wear clothes that connote decency. It applies to both men and women.”

Londe further pointed out that many devotees enter the temple in casual attire like T-shirts and shorts, while some wear revealing outfits, which can be inappropriate in a place of worship.

“Every place has its own importance. Imagine indecently standing in front of the deity inside the shrine… it also unsettles other devotees," he added.

With 75,000 to 90,000 visitors daily, the trust plans to install posters and signage to inform devotees about the new dress code.

The rule, they emphasised, is not about restriction but about ensuring a respectful and comfortable environment for all worshippers.
