On Sunday (10 November), the opposition alliance Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) released its manifesto for Maharashtra assembly elections pledging to uphold the Indian Constitution and restore the state's past glory.

The manifesto, named ‘Maharashtranama,’ outlines several commitments, including a caste-based census, boost per capita income, create employment opportunities, and offer farm loan waivers.

For women, it offers monthly financial aid of Rs 3,000 through the Mahalaxmi scheme, higher than the ruling coalition's promised Rs 2,100, free bus travel, and an annual provision of six cooking gas cylinders at Rs 500 each.

Additionally, the manifesto promises a ‘Nirbhay Maharashtra’ policy for women and children's safety, enforcement of the Shakti law, and a dedicated ministry for child welfare. It also includes a Rs 1 lakh grant for girls upon turning 18.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge unveiled the manifesto at a Mumbai press event, accompanied by NCP (SP) working president Supriya Sule and Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut.

The MVA also announced a 100-day action plan if elected. Key initiatives include free cervical cancer vaccines for girls aged 9 to 16 and two optional leave days per month for female employees during menstruation.

For farmers, the MVA committed to a debt waiver up to Rs 3 lakh, a Rs 50,000 incentive for timely loan repayments, and plans to review current schemes to better support widows and children of those affected by farmer suicides.
