Nagpur Metro's Phase 2 is advancing steadily, with significant progress visible on the Kamptee corridor.
The viaducts on the extension of the Orange Line have now extended beyond Khairi, nearing Kamptee, leaving only the final stretch to Kanhan.
The 13km-long corridor with 12 stations is the most station-dense and the second-longest segment of the Phase 2 project.
A senior Metro official confirmed that the Kamptee stretch is leading the construction efforts across all four reaches of the project.
Out of 32 stations planned for Phase 2, work has commenced on 14 stations.
“Work on all four reaches of Phase 2 commenced, with the Kamptee stretch leading in terms of visible progress. On Tuesday, foundation-laying activities also began on the Mihan-Butibori and Hingna corridors, signalling initiation of construction on those stretches as well,” the official said.
MahaMetro has floated and awarded tenders for most components of Phase 2, with only a few awaiting finalisation.
All viaduct and station-related tenders have been finalised, while track-related tenders are awaiting approval.
So far, civil tenders worth Rs 3,312.70 crore have been awarded, with Rs 219.33 crore worth of tenders in the pipeline.
These include consultancy work, surveys, utility shifting, viaduct construction, station work, and infrastructure elements such as subways, road overbridges (ROBs), and foot overbridges (FOBs).
“In terms of land acquisition, Metro has secured 80 per cent of the required land for Phase 2 and received consent letters from the remaining landowners,” the official added.
The Mihan-Butibori stretch, supported by a casting yard near Gumgaon village inaugurated in December, has also begun groundwork.
This facility, along with two other operational casting yards, is expected to produce critical construction segments. Preparatory work is also underway on the Hingna and Pardi corridors.
Metro officials expressed optimism about completing the entire Phase 2 network by December 2027, which would significantly enhance Nagpur's public transport infrastructure.
