To tackle Nagpur’s mounting traffic and transport challenges, a high-level committee led by divisional commissioner Vijayalakshmi Bidari convened its second review meeting on Friday (9 May) to scrutinise the draft Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP).
Prepared by MahaMetro in collaboration with the Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES), the CMP lays out a long-term vision for efficient, integrated, and sustainable mobility across the city, Times of India reported.
“This was our second high-level review meeting. A comprehensive presentation was made to all stakeholders, and we have now asked for further final suggestions within the next week,” Bidari was quoted as saying by ToI.
She added that a final review will soon follow before submission to the Chief Minister and senior ministers.
Anil Kumar Kokate, MahaMetro’s Director of Strategic Planning, provided detailed insights into the technical framework of the plan.
“The presentation incorporates traffic survey data, road analysis, and previous feedback from departments. This plan includes important elements like bus terminus locations, traffic flow patterns, and infrastructure gaps,” he said.
One of the key proposals is to reroute intercity buses to terminate at the city’s outskirts rather than within congested urban zones. This change, Kokate noted, would significantly reduce traffic bottlenecks in the city centre and enhance public transport integration.
The CMP also proposes improved coordination between metro lines, city buses, and shared mobility services, aiming to develop a more seamless and responsive transport system.
Another final meeting will be held within a month after which the proposal will be presented to the CM and other concerned ministers, Kokate added.
