In a significant reshuffle of top constitutional posts, President Droupadi Murmu on Monday (14 July) appointed new Governors for Haryana and Goa, alongside a fresh Lieutenant Governor for the Union Territory of Ladakh.
Prof Ashim Kumar Ghosh has been selected as the new Governor of Haryana, bringing with him a wealth of experience from his career in academia and higher education administration.
His appointment signals an emphasis on seasoned administrative expertise in the state’s gubernatorial office.
Meanwhile, Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju has been named Governor of Goa. Raju, a prominent figure in Indian politics, boasts an extensive record in public service, having previously served as Union Minister for Civil Aviation.
Over decades, he has held influential roles both in his home state of Andhra Pradesh and at the national level, cementing his reputation as a veteran statesman.
The President has also confirmed Kavinder Gupta, a senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader from Jammu, as the new Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.
Gupta’s political career has included time as Speaker of the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly and a stint as Deputy Chief Minister during the period of the PDP-BJP coalition government.
This reshuffle follows the resignation of Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) from his role as Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, a decision accepted by President Murmu.
