New Solapur–Mumbai Air Route Launched, Opening Doors For Trade And Tourism

The Mumbai–Solapur air service was officially inaugurated on Wednesday (15 October) by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at Solapur Airport.

The new route is expected to bolster the region’s industrial and economic growth, generate employment, and strengthen connectivity between Solapur, Mumbai, and international markets.

Fadnavis described the launch as a historic moment for Solapur, highlighting that it represents a major milestone for the city and its residents.

He noted that, after overcoming numerous challenges, direct air connectivity with Mumbai has finally become a reality.

The Chief Minister emphasised that the new air service is vital for the city’s growth, industrial expansion, and job creation, while also enhancing Solapur’s integration into the global economy.

He highlighted the city’s expanding industrial base and stressed that a functional airport is vital for regional development and competitiveness.

Fadnavis also underlined Solapur’s cultural and tourism significance, noting major pilgrimage destinations such as the Vitthal-Rukmini Temple in Pandharpur and the Siddheshwar Temple.

He added that the new air service will significantly ease travel for pilgrims and tourists visiting Solapur’s important religious sites.

Crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s UDAN (RCS) scheme, the Chief Minister noted that the initiative has made the route sustainable and highlighted that connecting Solapur to Mumbai effectively links the city to global markets.

He further announced that plans to establish an IT Park in Solapur, previously delayed due to limited connectivity, would now be fast-tracked, creating employment opportunities for local youth.
