The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday (28 January) launched searches at 16 locations across Tamil Nadu in connection with an ISIS radicalisation case, reported ANI.

Acting on specific intelligence, the raids began early in the day, targeting hideouts of individuals suspected of promoting ISIS ideology and recruiting members, according to sources familiar with the operation.

The NIA has been intensively probing cases of radicalisation and recruitment linked to ISIS across multiple states in India. This operation stems from a fresh case registered last year against ISIS supporters whose involvement came to light during earlier investigations.

The agency’s intensified focus follows its arrest of three individuals on 21 October last year, in connection with the ISIS-inspired car bomb blast in Coimbatore in October 2022. Investigations revealed that the accused had conspired to fund and execute the terror attack.

In a related case of radicalisation, the NIA had previously arrested and filed charges against four individuals, further uncovering a network of ISIS sympathisers.

The current searches aim to gather critical evidence against suspects involved in spreading extremist ideologies, as the NIA continues its efforts to dismantle such networks.
