The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday (3 February) arrested two key accused in the Tamil Nadu Hizb-ut-Tahrir (HuT) case, intensifying its crackdown on radical elements, reported ANI.
The accused, Kabeer Ahmed Aliyar and Bava Bahrudeen alias Mannai Bava, were allegedly involved in propagating HuT’s extremist ideology through secret Bayaans (religious discourses).
According to the NIA, they also played a role in organising an exhibition that sought to "showcase the military might of Islamic nations that would be invited (Nussrah) to overthrow the Indian government, established by law, by waging violent jihad and war."
The agency had earlier registered the case against six accused persons, uncovering a larger conspiracy rooted in HuT’s pan-Islamist and fundamentalist objectives.
The group, which operates internationally, aims to establish an Islamic caliphate and enforce its founder Taqi al-Din al-Nabhani’s constitution, as per NIA investigations.
In a significant move last October, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) banned HuT and all its front organisations under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) 1967, citing national security concerns.
The NIA is deepening its probe to trace the role of co-conspirators, international networks, and funding channels linked to HuT.
