The Noida International Airport project has missed its third deadline, with the 15 May date for domestic operations now deemed unachievable due to incomplete terminal work.
This marks a month-long delay from the original 29 September 2024 deadline.
While no revised launch date has been formally announced, the inauguration may be unlikely within the next two months, Times of India reported.
The Uttar Pradesh government has imposed a penalty of Rs 10 lakh per day on the concessionaire Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL) from 1 January, citing delays in project completion.
Chief secretary Manoj Kumar Singh inspected the site in Jewar on Tuesday (29 April), and met officials from YIAPL, Tata Projects Limited, and Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL).
He is expected to chair a stakeholder meeting soon and submit a comprehensive report within 15 days.
As of 10 March, the airport’s physical progress stood at 80 per cent. The runway and associated airside infrastructure were reportedly 90 per cent complete, and the terminal was 80 per cent complete with ongoing roofing and interior work.
Water and sewage plants were only 40 per cent complete.
Though the ATC building was to be completed by 31 March, the commissioning of CNS/ATM systems by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) was projected only by 30 April, ToI reported.
Officials earlier told the CM that non-issuance of the aerodrome licence from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), along with pending construction, were major roadblocks to commence flight operation by 30 April.
The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) also flagged pending compliance on key security documents and would require 45 days post-compliance to issue clearance.
The DGCA proposed phased operations, suggesting cargo flights by 15 May, partial passenger operations, or full readiness for Phase 1.
