India’s recent counter-terror operations under Operation Sindoor have sent a clear signal that even territory across the border is no longer safe for those who sponsor or shelter terrorism, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Sunday (11 May).

Singh also said that India’s action was not confined to military posts near the border, and that the impact of its forces was felt as far as Rawalpindi, where the headquarters of the Pakistani Army is located.

Speaking after the virtual launch of BrahMos manufacturing facility in Lucknow, Singh said Operation Sindoor is not just a military operation but a symbol of India’s political resolve, social unity and strategic determination.

"This operation is a demonstration of India’s firm resolve against terrorism, as well as the strength and determination of its armed forces. We have shown that whenever India acts against terrorism, even territory across the border will not remain safe for terrorists and their handlers," he added.

Singh said the Indian armed forces launched Operation Sindoor with the objective of dismantling the terror infrastructure based in Pakistan.

"We never targeted their civilian population. But Pakistan not only targeted Indian civilian areas, it also attempted attacks on temples, gurdwaras, and churches," he added.

He said that the armed forces responded forcefully by striking multiple Pakistani military installations, demonstrating not only courage and valour but also restraint.

"Our action was not limited to military posts near the border — the impact of India’s forces was felt all the way in Rawalpindi, where the headquarters of the Pakistani Army is located," he said.

Singh said that India has shown the world how it responds to terrorism — from conducting surgical strikes after the Uri attack, to launching airstrikes in Balakot following Pulwama, and now, after the Pahalgam incident, carrying out multiple cross-border strikes inside Pakistan.

"Following a policy of zero tolerance against terrorism, our Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made it clear that this is a New India — one that will take effective action against terrorism on both sides of the border," he added.
