Advisers to Pakistan’s Army chief Asim Munir reportedly presented US officials with a proposal to construct and manage a port on the Arabian Sea, Financial Times reported.

The proposal envisions American investors constructing and managing a terminal at Pasni, a port town in Gwadar District, Balochistan — strategically located near Afghanistan and Iran — to access Pakistan’s mineral resources, reported NDTV.

The initiative follows a White House meeting in September between Munir, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and US President Donald Trump.

During the meeting, Sharif urged US companies to invest in Pakistan’s agriculture, technology, mining, and energy sectors.

According to the Financial Times, Munir's advisers presented the offer to some US officials before Munir’s meeting with Trump last month.

The blueprint specifically rules out using the port for US military bases, instead aiming to attract development funding to build a rail network linking the port with mineral-rich provinces in western Pakistan.
