Several prominent Pakistani celebrities have once again found their social media accounts blocked in India, only a day after restrictions were unexpectedly lifted, India Today reported.

By Thursday (3 July) morning, Instagram and Twitter profiles of well-known figures including Hania Aamir, Mahira Khan, Shahid Afridi, Mawra Hocane, and Fawad Khan were no longer accessible to Indian users.

The renewed block follows a brief window on Wednesday (2 July) when numerous Pakistani Instagram accounts and YouTube channels, such as Hum TV, ARY Digital, and Har Pal Geo, had become visible again to Indian viewers.

On 2 July, accounts belonging to Pakistani celebrities like Saba Qamar, Mawra Hocane, Fawad Khan, Shahid Afridi, Ahad Raza Mir, Yumna Zaidi, and Danish Taimoor had reappeared on Instagram for users in India, sparking widespread speculation that the social media “ban” might have been quietly reversed.

Fans quickly noticed the sudden visibility of these profiles, but by Thursday, searching for these accounts on Instagram resulted in a pop-up stating, “Account not available in India. This is because we complied with a legal request to restrict this content.”

So far, there has been no official statement from the Indian government addressing either the brief reappearance or the renewed blocking of Pakistani channels and celebrity profiles. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has remained silent on the matter.

The original restrictions were put in place amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, following India’s Operation Sindoor, a military operation aimed at terror networks in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Several Pakistani celebrities had openly criticised the Indian military action, leading to significant backlash and the subsequent geoblocking of their social media presence in India.
