The case of the grenade attack on the residence of BJP leader and former minister Manoranjan Kalia in Jalandhar has reportedly been solved by the Punjab Police. This comes within 12 hours of the incident, with the apprehension of two individuals.
At a press briefing in Chandigarh, Special Deputy General of Police (Law and Order), Arpit Shukla, implicated Pakistan's intelligence agency ISI and Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) in orchestrating an attack aimed at inciting communal unrest in Punjab.
He further identified Zeeshan Akhtar, a known accomplice of incarcerated gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, and Pakistani gangster Shehzad Bhatti as the individuals responsible for the attack, Indian Express reported.
Shukla confirmed that the two individuals suspected were apprehended, along with the e-rickshaw implicated in the assault. However, the police denied sharing more details, fearing that it would 'hamper the investigation.'
"We are exploring the involvement of Happy Passia and others as well as that of BKI in the matter,” Shukla said, adding that the Central agencies have joined hands for an ongoing operation.
In response to inquiries about the recurring grenade assaults in Punjab in recent months, Shukla stated that the majority of these incidents have been resolved.
In response to the recent developments, Manoranjan Kalia expressed to the press that if Punjab Police is satisfied with the investigation, then he also is. He further insisted that the police should extend their investigation to ascertain whether the arrested individuals were also involved in attacks in other regions of Punjab.
“Ever since the AAP has come to power in Punjab, the law and order situation in the state has deteriorated. Pakistan will always try to create trouble in Punjab, but the Punjab Police have the primary responsibility to maintain peace. Unfortunately, it has not been so for the past three years,” he said.
