The Lok Sabha will hold a 16-hour discussion next week on the recent Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor, reported The New Times of India.
The debate, which will span three days, follows noisy protests and repeated adjournments on the opening day of the Monsoon Session.
The Business Advisory Committee (BAC) finalised the plan. Though the Opposition initially objected to the timing, the Congress later agreed to the government’s proposal. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be abroad from 23 to 26 July, prompting the Opposition to suggest the discussion begin upon his return.
“We will ask the government to hold the discussions as soon as the PM returns from the trip,” a Congress leader told The New Indian Express, adding that the INDI Alliance will meet on Tuesday (22 July) to finalise its stand.
Opposition members also flagged the absence of Operation Sindoor from the week's listed agenda and demanded debates on the Bihar electoral roll revision and the Manipur situation.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh assured that the government is ready for a full discussion on issues approved by the Speaker. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju criticised the Opposition for stalling proceedings, saying, “To raise slogans and not let the House function on the first day of the Monsoon session is unacceptable.”
Despite Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar’s appeal, the Upper House also saw multiple disruptions. “I will ensure full-fledged discussion for as much time as you want,” Dhankhar assured.
