Patna’s long-awaited metro project, the elevated stretch of Corridor II known as the ‘blue line’ is expected to become operational by 15 August 2025, according to a Times of India report.
The 6.49 km priority corridor, part of the Patna Metro Rail Project, connects Patna Junction with ISBT and features five elevated stations: Malahi Pakri, Khemnichak, Bhoothnath, Zero Mile, and ISBT.
According to metro officials cited in the ToI report, nearly 90 per cent of the work on the priority corridor is complete, with final civil and electrical installations underway.
“Final touches are being given at some stations while others are in the last phase of civil and electrical works. Installation of tracks and electric poles is ongoing,” officials were quoted as saying in ToI report.
U-girders have been installed at Khemnichak, platform casting is in progress at ISBT, and purlin work is advancing at Bhoothnath.
The ISBT Metro rail depot at Baririya Chak, spread across 76 acres, has completed civil works with finishing work in progress.
It will house modern facilities such as two workshop bays, three inspection bays, a test track, stabling bays for 32 trains, and an auto-coach washing unit.
Additional infrastructure includes an auditorium, training school, canteen, control centre, and a 2,500 KVA substation.
Khemnichak station will serve as a key interchange between Corridors I and II, with a three-level design supporting two platforms for seamless transfers.
“The state govt is working with full commitment to provide a modern, fast and environmentally friendly public transport system," Bihar's Urban Development and Housing Minister Jibesh Kumar was quoted as saying by ToI.
The project is being implemented at an estimated cost of Rs 13,925 crore, funded jointly by the Bihar government (20 per cent), the Centre (20 per cent), and JICA (60 per cent).
