Former Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh stated that the BJP is making efforts to establish a popular government in the state, which is currently under President’s rule.

Speaking at the sidelines of a BJP event on Saturday (28 June), Singh expressed confidence that a new government would be formed soon, news agency PTI reported.

He said the party, in coordination with its allies, is working to form a government.

“We are a national party. After looking into the ground situation, I have faith that a government will be formed soon,” he said.

He added that BJP is committed to restoring a popular government.

Singh emphasised that the party is not indulging in blame games and is focused on resolving the current crisis.

He said discussions with the Centre and stakeholders are underway to bring peace, and regular MLA meetings are being held to push for a return to elected governance.

He said that there had been no fresh inter-community clashes in recent months, and stressed that peace is essential for the state’s progress.

Singh also highlighted the Centre’s efforts to restore peace and governance.

Responding to a media query, Singh reiterated concerns about illegal immigration and drug cartels affecting the Northeast.

He called for collective action to tackle these issues, describing the shift in public understanding as a “positive sign.”

President’s rule was imposed in Manipur on 13 February following Singh’s resignation.

The state assembly, which is in suspended animation, has a tenure until 2027.
