The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry launched ‘PM GatiShakti–Offshore’ in New Delhi on Monday (13 October), marking four years of the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (NMP).
The newly launched platform is designed as a comprehensive digital interface for offshore planning and management, enabling seamless coordination among multiple ministries.
It aims to drive data-driven decision-making for key projects such as offshore wind farms, marine resource exploration, and coastal infrastructure, while supporting India’s Blue Economy and clean energy ambitions.
Built on a Whole-of-Government approach, PM GatiShakti–Offshore consolidates critical datasets from ministries including New and Renewable Energy; Environment, Forest and Climate Change; Petroleum and Natural Gas; Ports, Shipping and Waterways; Power; Mines; Fisheries; and Telecommunications.
The integration of such datasets allows for holistic planning and optimal utilisation of India’s offshore potential.
The platform hosts extensive geospatial data layers across domains like energy, environment, logistics, and oceanic hazards.
These include detailed maps of offshore wind and tidal energy zones, oil and gas fields, coral reefs, mangroves, sedimentary basins, and seismic risk areas, providing planners and investors with real-time, reliable insights.
The portal’s biggest advantage lies in identifying potential infrastructure overlaps, regulatory constraints, and environmentally sensitive zones early in the project cycle, significantly reducing risks and delays.
For instance, in planning an HVDC subsea link to connect the Indian mainland with the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, datasets from multiple ministries, ranging from bathymetry and seabed contours to coral reef mapping can guide cost-effective and ecologically responsible route selection.
At the commemorative event, other key initiatives were also launched, including PM GatiShakti for Public, District Master Plans for 112 Aspirational Districts, and the LEAPS 2025 Awards.
Additional features introduced were the NMP Dashboard, Knowledge Management System, Data Uploading and Management System (DUMS), and the third volume of the PM GatiShakti Compendium.
