Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (14 April), flagged off the inaugural commercial flight from Hisar to Ayodhya and laid the foundation stone for the new terminal building at Maharaja Agrasen Airport.
The initiative is part of the Centre’s commitment to expanding affordable and accessible air travel under the UDAN scheme, PTI reported.
The new terminal, to be developed at an estimated cost of over Rs 410 crore, will feature a state-of-the-art passenger terminal, cargo handling facilities, and an Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower.
The ambitious project is slated for completion within two years and is expected to significantly boost regional connectivity and economic growth across Haryana.
“The inauguration of Hisar Airport marks a significant milestone in Haryana's development journey. It will boost regional connectivity and catalyse economic growth across the state,” PM Modi wrote on X.
The airport will offer scheduled flights twice a week from Hisar to Ayodhya, with additional services three times a week to key cities including Jammu, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, and Chandigarh.
The event also marked the launch of several other development initiatives in Haryana, totalling over Rs 10,000 crore.
