Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (5 May) visited Ayodhya and took darshan of Shri Ramlalla at Ram temple.

This was PM Modi's first visit to the holy city after the 'pran pratishtha' of Ramlalla's murti on 22 January earlier this year.

After performing puja at the Ram temple, PM Modi held a two-kilometer-long mega roadshow in the city, starting from Sugriva Fort to Lata Chowk.

In a post on X, PM Modi said, "The hearts of the people of Ayodhya are as big as Lord Shri Ram. Gratitude to the people who came to give blessings in the road show".

In preparations for the Prime Minister's visit, the city was decked up with life-size cutouts of the PM Modi and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and pictures of deities put up along the roads.

The entire route was divided into 40 blocks, in which Sindhis, Punjabis, farmers and women in traditional costumes attended the roadshow.

Cultural programmes were also held at various places on the route and flowers were showered during the roadshow.

Security was tightened in the temple town amid the the huge influx of devotees from early hours on Sunday.

PM Modi's visit to the holy city comes as Uttar Pradesh is gearing up for third phase of voting.

Scheduled for 7 May, third phase will see 10 Lok Sabha constituencies heading to the polls.

These include Sambhal, Hathras, Agra, Fatehpur Sikri, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Etah, Badaun, Bareilly, and Aonla.

Meanwhile, Ayodhya will be voting in the fifth phase on 20 May.
