Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday (29 May) inaugurated the new terminal building of Jayprakash Narayan International Airport in Patna.
PM Modi was accompanied by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Union Minister of Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu.
The new terminal built at a cost of around Rs 1,200 crore can handle one crore passengers per year.
The terminal spans 65,155 square meters and is equipped with modern facilities. It features 54 check-in counters, five aerobridges, eight X-ray baggage scanners, five luggage conveyor belts, a multi-level parking facility, a VIP lounge, and a cafeteria.
"Patna airport gets a modern terminal building! This is great news for Bihar's progress," PM Modi said in a post on X.
He also laid the foundation stone of the new civil enclave of Bihta Airport worth over Rs 1,410 crore.
The Bihta airport will serve the town which is rapidly emerging as an educational hub near Patna, housing IIT Patna and the proposed NIT Patna campus.
Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said that the inauguration of the new terminal building at Patna Airport is a proud milestone in India’s aviation growth.
"This state-of-the-art terminal is not just about modern infrastructure; it is also a tribute to our rich heritage. The walls of the terminal are adorned with beautiful Madhubani art showcasing Bihar’s cultural brilliance to every traveler who passes through," Naidu said.
Bihar CM Nitish Kumar said that the construction of the new terminal at Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport and the foundation laying of the new civil enclave at Bihta Airport will significantly enhance air connectivity and promote tourism in Bihar.
"These developments will also accelerate economic growth and overall development in the state," he added.
