Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (15 September) began a high-profile visit to West Bengal and Bihar, inaugurating major infrastructure and developmental projects to strengthen India’s military preparedness, connectivity, and economic growth, reported NDTV.
He started his day in Kolkata by inaugurating the 16th Combined Commanders' Conference-2025 at 9:30 a.m. The three-day conference, running from 15 to 17 September, brings together India’s Armed Forces and top civilian leadership.
With the theme ‘Year of Reforms – Transforming for the Future’, the conference highlights the government’s push for long-term transformation and modernisation of military capabilities.
Later, PM Modi reached Purnia, Bihar, to inaugurate the new Interim Terminal Building of the New Civil Enclave at Purnea Airport, a project expected to improve northeastern Bihar’s regional air connectivity and passenger capacity.
He laid the foundation stone and inaugurated projects worth nearly Rs 36,000 crore, including Bihar’s largest private-sector investment—the 3x800 MW Thermal Power Project at Pirpainti, Bhagalpur, worth Rs 25,000 crore.
Designed with ultra-super critical, low-emission technology, the project aims to strengthen Bihar’s energy security.
PM Modi also launched Phase 1 of the Kosi-Mechi Intra-State River Link Project, valued at over Rs 2,680 crore, to enhance irrigation, flood control, and agriculture in northeastern Bihar.
Recognising Bihar’s contribution of nearly 90 per cent to the nation's makhana production, he announced the launch of the National Makhana Board to promote technology adoption, value addition, marketing, and exports.
He distributed Community Investment Funds worth Rs 500 crore to Cluster Level Federations under the DAY-NRLM scheme, symbolically handing cheques to select CLF presidents.
