Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced the formation of a "Deregulation Commission" to reduce government interference in the society.
He made this announcement at the ET Now Global Business Summit 2025 on Saturday (15 February), where he highlighted India's transformation into a business-friendly economy over the past decade.
Speaking at the Summit, PM Modi emphasised that his government has successfully replaced the "fear of business" with an environment of "ease of doing business".
He credited the Goods and Services Tax (GST) for creating a Single Large Market, which has significantly benefited industries by simplifying taxation and fostering economic integration.
"In the past decade, we have transformed the fear of business into ease of doing business. Due to GST, the establishment of a Single Large Market in the country has greatly benefited industries," PM Modi said.
Highlighting improvements in infrastructure, the Prime Minister noted that the past decade has witnessed unprecedented development, leading to lower logistics costs and increased efficiency.
He also pointed out the government's efforts in eliminating hundreds of compliances, with Jan Vishwas 2.0 set to further streamline regulatory processes.
"Over the past decade, there has also been unprecedented development in infrastructure, leading to reduced logistics costs and increased efficiency. We have eliminated hundreds of compliances, and through Jan Vishwas 2.0, we are further reducing them," he said.
"In society, and this is my conviction, government intervention should be minimised. To achieve this, the government is going to establish a Deregulation Commission," PM Modi added.
