The Kuwait government on Sunday (22 December) bestowed its highest honour “Order of Mubarak Al Kabeer” upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Prime Minister Modi is on a two-day visit to Kuwait at the invitation of Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
"I am honoured to be conferred the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Order by His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah. I dedicate this honour to the people of India and to the strong friendship between India and Kuwait," PM Modi said in a post on X.
This prestigious recognition marks the twentieth international honour awarded to Prime Minister Modi by a foreign nation.
The ‘Order of Mubarak Al Kabeer’ is a knighthood order of Kuwait.
This honour is traditionally bestowed upon Heads of State, foreign sovereigns, and members of foreign royal families as a gesture of friendship.
Notable recipients of the Order in the past include international leaders such as Bill Clinton, Prince Charles, and George Bush.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi attended the opening ceremony of the 26th Arabian Gulf Cup in Kuwait as the ‘Guest of Honour’.
The Prime Minister joined the Amir, the Crown Prince, and His Prime Minister of Kuwait in witnessing the grand opening ceremony.
The event also provided an opportunity for an informal interaction of the Prime Minister with the leadership of Kuwait, according to a PMO release.
Kuwait is hosting the biennial Arabian Gulf Cup with participation from eight countries, including GCC nations, Iraq, and Yemen. This football tournament is one of the most prominent sporting events in the region.
Kuwait has won the tournament maximum times among the participating countries.
Prime Minister Modi conveyed his best wishes to all the participating countries.
