Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday (2 October) praised the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on its centenary, calling its workers devoted to the service and security of the nation while renouncing comforts, reported The Times Of India.
Shah, describing himself as a “proud swayamsevak,” said the Sangh has shaped numerous leaders over its 100 years.
“Heartfelt congratulations on the centenary year of the world’s largest voluntary organisation, ‘Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’. In this grand journey of the Sangh centenary, I bow to all the dedicated workers of the RSS who have devoted their lives to the service, security, and empathy of Maa Bharati,” he said.
Shah noted that being a swayamsevak or pracharak requires renouncing all comforts for nation-building.
“Over 100 years, countless swayamsevaks and pracharaks of the Sangh have demonstrated this through sacrifice and dedication. I am proud to be a swayamsevak myself,” he added.
He traced the Sangh’s journey from its founding by Keshav Baliram Hedgewar in Nagpur on Vijayadashami 1925 with just a few people, to becoming the world’s largest social organisation.
Shah highlighted its role in major causes, saying, be it the Hyderabad liberation struggle, the resistance against the Emergency, or the Goa liberation movement, the RSS has stepped in with its workers to commit to the cause.
He also praised the Sangh for supporting soldiers in wars, opposing Article 370, and leading anti-infiltrator efforts in the Northeast.
“By weaving forest-dwellers, backward classes, Dalits, deprived sections, and all strata of the country into the thread of unity… this centenary journey of the Sangh… will be written in golden letters in history,” Shah said.
