In Pune, a significant development occurred following a tragic accident involving a minor.

On Tuesday (21 May) morning, police arrested the father of a 17-year-old boy from Maharashtra's Sambhajinagar.

The 17-year-old, the son of a notable real estate developer, was driving the unregistered Porsche at the time of the incident. Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar confirmed the arrests to ANI, noting that the bar staff had served alcohol to the minor on the night of the crash.

Consequently, the bar owner and manager were also arrested.

The same report indicates that the father had been evading arrest since being charged.

The charges against the father and the others involve violations of the Motor Vehicles Act (MVA) and the Juvenile Justice Act (JJA), including allowing the minor to drive without a license. The father had purchased the Porsche for his son in March, but the vehicle had not been registered.

The teenager, who is four months shy of his 18th birthday, was initially released by the Juvenile Justice Board. The board required him to write an essay about the accident, seek help to stop drinking and engage in voluntary work with the Pune traffic police. These bail conditions sparked outrage in the city.

However, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar stated on Monday that they intend to try the teenager as an adult due to the severity of the crime. An application to this effect was submitted to the Juvenile Justice Board on Sunday but was denied.

The police are now appealing to the sessions court to pursue the case against the minor as an adult.
