Intensifying crackdown on espionage network linked to Pakistan, the Punjab Police on Sunday (22 June) nabbed two more individuals.
The accused — Gurpreet Singh alias Gopy Foji and Sahil Masih alias Shali were allegedly engaged in spying activities, according to a statement by Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav.
"Preliminary investigation revealed that Gurpreet Singh was in direct contact with operatives of Pakistan's ISI and was suspected of sharing sensitive and confidential information via pen drives. The key ISI handler involved in the case has been identified as Rana Javed," Yadav said in a post on X.
He added that two mobile phones used to maintain communication with Pakistani operations have also been seized.
"Investigations are underway to dismantle the broader espionage-terror network and identify all collaborators," the Punjab DGP said.
Earlier in June, similar arrests were made, including Gagandeep Singh from Tarn Taran and Jasbir Singh alias Jaan Mahal from Ropar, both reportedly linked to Haryana-based YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra, who is currently in custody and facing espionage charges filed by the Haryana Police.
In May, two people were arrested in Malerkotla for allegedly assisting a Pakistani official at the High Commission in Delhi.
