In the QS World University Rankings 2025, IIT Delhi has been recognised as the top institution in India, followed closely by IIT Bombay. The latest QS Rankings highlight India’s impressive rise in higher education across Asia, with two institutions in the top 50 and seven in the top 100.
IIT Delhi climbed to the 44th spot from last year’s 46th, boasting an employer reputation score of 99 per cent. IIT Bombay followed, ranking 48th globally, with an employer reputation score of 99.5 per cent and an academic reputation score of 96.6 per cent.
The University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) achieved the largest leap among Indian institutions, moving up 70 places to reach the 148th position, NDTV reported.
Five other Indian institutions placed in the top 100 include IIT Madras (56), IIT Kharagpur (60), Indian Institute of Science (62), IIT Kanpur (67), and the Delhi University (81).
Additionally, institutions like IIT Guwahati, IIT Roorkee, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Chandigarh University (120), UPES (148), and Vellore Institute of Technology rank within the top 150.
Delhi University also made significant progress, advancing from 94th to 81st and scoring 96.4 per cent in the International Research Network. Anna University earned a perfect score of 100 in the "Papers Per Faculty" metric, reflecting its strong research output.
Around 15 universities in India scored above 99 per cent in the "Staff with PhD" indicator, highlighting the high quality of education and teaching standards.
Notably, North Eastern Hill University and the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, both achieved a perfect score of 100 in the faculty-student ratio indicator, underscoring their commitment to academic excellence.
