Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday (18 September) linked his allegations of “vote chori” to the nation’s youth, saying that India’s Gen Z will protect democracy, even as the BJP hit back with a sharp warning of a “Nepal-style” backlash, the Hindustan Times reported.
Addressing a press conference as part of his ongoing series on alleged voter deletions, the Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition said mass removal of names from electoral rolls was being carried out by “someone” and demanded answers from Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Gandhi stated that his claims were backed by “100 per cent proof.”

After the briefing, he took to X to emphasise the role of young voters. “The nation's youth, the nation's students, the nation's Gen Z, will defend the Constitution, protect democracy, and stop vote theft. I always stand with them. Jai Hind!” he posted.
The BJP responded with a pointed message from its MP Nishikant Dubey, who cited the recent youth-led protests in Nepal that unseated its government.
Dubey wrote, “Gen Z is against family politics. 1. Why would they tolerate Rahul Ji after Nehru Ji, Indira Ji, Rajiv Ji, Sonia Ji?... 2. They are against corruption, why wouldn't they chase you away? 3. They want to make an Islamic nation in Bangladesh and a Hindu nation in Nepal, why wouldn't they make India a Hindu nation? Get ready to leave the country, they are coming.............”
Following fresh allegations by Rahul Gandhi about irregularities in the Aland Assembly constituency before the 2023 Karnataka polls, the state’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) on Thursday (18 September) said all information related to the case had already been shared with the superintendent of police of Kalaburagi on 6 September 2023.
