Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Monday (18 August) escalated his attack on the Election Commission, vowing to act against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and election commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi if the INDIA bloc forms the government, reported India Today.
Speaking during the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Bihar’s Gaya, Gandhi accused the poll body of facilitating “vote chori” through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
“Like PM (Narendra) Modi ji talks of a special package, the Election Commission has brought a special package for Bihar named SIR, which means a new form of vote theft,” he declared.
He criticised the Commission for demanding an affidavit to prove his claims. “I want to tell the Election Commission that the whole country will ask you to give an affidavit. Give us some time, we will catch your theft in every assembly and Lok Sabha seat, and put it before the people,” he said, adding that “vote chori” was an attack on the soul of ‘Bharat Mata’.
Gandhi also alleged that the election commissioners were working for the BJP. “These three election commissioners… Tejashwi ji said that you have taken BJP membership and are working for them,” he charged.
He warned, “A day will come that there will be an INDIA bloc government in Bihar and in Delhi; then we will take action against the three of you. You've stolen (vote) from the whole country.”
His remarks followed CEC Kumar’s ultimatum, asking Gandhi to file an affidavit within seven days or apologise, failing which his allegations would be treated as baseless.
