In a big boost for rail connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir, the Commissioner for Railway Safety (CRS) has cleared the Katra-Reasi section on the Udhampur-Srinagar-Barmulla Rail Link (USBRL) for train operations.

The CRS has approved the operation of trains on the newly constructed Katra-Reasi section of the USRBL project in J&K after inspection.

This development sets the stage for the introduction of regular train services between Jammu and Srinagar.

Trains on this route will operate at a maximum speed of 85 kmph on standard tracks and 15 kmph on loop lines at stations, Times of India reported.

Trains between Jammu and Srinagar will run exclusively during daytime hours due to security concerns.

Additionally, passengers traveling to Srinagar will board from a designated platform at Katra, where stricter security measures will be implemented.

Non-stop train services from Delhi or other cities to Srinagar are not planned at this stage, ToI reported citing sources.

The CRS has outlined specific conditions and stipulations in its seven-page report that must be met before regular train services can commence.

Railway officials have reportedly said that there will be full compliance of norms.

While the official date for the inaugural train run on the Katra-Reasi section has yet to be announced, the launch is reportedly expected to take place within this month.
