Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday (2 August) challenged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to immediately present his alleged “atom bomb of evidence” proving the Election Commission’s (EC) involvement in 'vote theft' under the pretext of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar, reported The Hindu.
Speaking at a media event in Patna, Singh slammed Gandhi’s claim, stating, “The Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, says that the EC is stealing votes. Whereas the EC is such a constitutional institution of India which has its own credibility.”
Singh noted that the Opposition had disrupted Parliament the previous day over the SIR issue, and Gandhi had made an “absurd statement” about possessing an “atom bomb of evidence” regarding “vote theft” by the poll panel.
“I would like to say to Rahul ji, if you have an “atom bomb” of evidence, then detonate it immediately. Present all the evidence before the public. But the truth is, he has neither any facts nor any evidence. It is his old habit to make sensational statements,” Singh said.
Singh also recalled Gandhi’s past remark that his speech would trigger an “earthquake,” saying, “When he spoke, Khoda Pahad Nikli Chuhiya (dug up a mountain and found a mouse). I would just say to Rahul ji, detonate the bomb quickly. But keep yourself balanced and safe.”
Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal also responded, accusing Gandhi of defaming constitutional bodies and urged him to submit his findings to the EC.
He said Gandhi was “overlooking” facts and misleading the public.
Singh defended the EC, praising its preparations for upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, and warned voters against falling for divisive politics.
“There are two paths – one is the path of development... the second path will again push Bihar into an era of casteism, crime and anarchy,” he said.
He also reminded that SIR exercises were conducted earlier without controversy, accusing the Congress of politicising the process.
